How to ftp with IE6 Browser
A simple way to upload files to the AMC site is by using the IE6 browser. (It does not work in Firefox or Opera). This method is similar to WhizFTP. Open IE6 and type in the address line “ftp.amcnarragansett.org” and enter. You will be prompted with this dialog box. (If you don't get the login box, use the top menu and click on "Tools=>Internet Options=>Advanced=>Browsing" and check the box for "Enable folder view for FTP sites").

Fill the form with the username and password for the folder you want to access. Click “Save password” if you wish. Then [Log On]. You will get the following in IE6 browser.

(Tech Talk: You will not know exactly where you are because you actually logged into what the ftp program thinks is the root.) But you will be in the “photobin” if that is the username you used. Other usernames and passwords will put you into another area of the web site.
Open up your “My Computer” dialog box. For a classic windows screen it will be an icon in the upper left of your desktop. For XP it will be found under the “Start” button. Use it to click down to the file folder you have the photos you want to upload. Tag (highlight) the files you want to upload using any of the standard windows methods of tagging files, ie highlight one and Ctrl-A to select all the files in the folder, or highlight a file and Ctrl-click additional files. In the following image I have tagged two files for uploading, then I left clicked one of the tagged files and dragged them to the ftp window. The uploading started automatically. The process of uploading is seen below. The process of downloading is just the reverse.

When the file transfer is finished you will see the new files in the IE6 window. You may close the “My Computer” dialog box and either close the IE6 or use it as a regular browser.
