Volunteer Opportunities

As you know the Narragansett Chapter of the AMC operates with the efforts of many dedicated volunteers and after several years these volunteers step a side to give other members opportunities to serve the Chapter. At this time there are several volunteer positions that are opening or are open. Please reflect on the services that you have been receiving from our various leaders and consider volunteering for one or more of the following positions. If you have an interest in any of the positions, know someone who might be, or would like to serve, please contact Eugene Mihaly, 247-1327, or email: eugene at mihaly.org.

Chapter Communications Chair
The current Communications Chair, Mark Dennon, would like to pass this position to someone who has more time to devote to the communications post. Obviously an applicant should have good communications skills, and hopefully would have some technical knowledge of the internet and publishing. Knowing some of the "ins and outs" of the internet would help understanding our web site and how it works. Knowledge in publishing would help in understanding how the printed Gazette newsletter is put together (ie. software) and dealing with the printer. While these skills are good to have, a person who has the curiosity and desire to learn is just as important. The official position responsibilities are lised under the Chapter Rules. If you are interested or have questions, contact Mark Dennen.

Webmaster Assistant
Your current webmaster would like a little help. I would like a person to help maintain the Chapter web site. This person would assist in making changes and updates to the web site whenever the webmaster is not available. This person would also assist in maintaining access to the online Trip Database. Our website has been coded with relatively simple programs and can be maintained with simple html editors. Experience with Dreamweaver, Frontpage, or other WYSIWYG editors is helpful but knowing the basic html "tags" is more important. Knowledge of any computer language, even BASIC, is helpful understanding Javascript which is used on our website. (This is helpful reading code, in which you maybe not fluent, so you can at least figure out what is going on.) Since these are skills that few people normally develop, the webmaster is willing to assist/teach anyone who wants to learn. If you have any interest contact the webmaster.

Family Outing Committee
The Narragansett Chapter would like to begin holding more activities for families so we have decided to resurrect the Family Outing Committee. The Committee would be charged with developing guidelines for the program, a schedule of activities and seeking volunteers to lead trips. If you are interested in participating on the Committee, please contact Tom Eagan at tce@psh.com

Trails Committee Chair Needed
The Trails Committee provides leadership for doing local trail work projects and is open to all AMC members interested in trail stewardship. A Committee Chair is needed to work with and support Trails leaders. Duties include monthly Trails meetings, simple record keeping, maintaining contact with the national office at Joy Street, and providing information to the web site and Gazette. For more information please contact Marie Earley at 789-8331, call 7-9pm.

Chapter Reporters
These are new volunteer positions that will produce articles and photos for the Gazette and the Chapter website. If you have writing and editing skills, or photography skills, the Chapter could use your talent. Shannon Kelley has volunteered for the position, but we could use more to share the load and cover activities better.

Chapter Youth Programs Training
The AMC Chapter Youth Programs (CYP) is activated again and training is available. This training is one of several requirements for any person that may want to support a youth organization as a member of the AMC.
