Guidelines

This message board is for members to post messages and announcements of their own choosing, so long as they are of general AMC interest. This is not the place to list sanctioned activities. A sanctioned activity is formally approved by the respective activity group or committee, and led by an approved leader. It will then be posted in the Gazette and/or the online AMC Trip Database. (Note: You do not have to wait until the next Gazette (bimonthly) is published to list a new trip or event. Short notice activities can be approved and posted on the web in many cases in less than a week.) With respect to this message board, you can, and are encouraged to, post last minute changes, messages and updates related to events and activities that are already scheduled.

In accordance with chapter policy, the posting of commercial sales and/or advertising is not permitted. We don't want this Board to become a page for retailers or stores to post their latest sales pitch. But "events of interest" for members such as seminars or presentations (whether by commercial, retail, or nonprofit organizations) are allowed, even if there is a fee or donation to attend.

Suggestions for use

The hike you are leading Saturday may be rained out and you may want to reschedule for Sunday. Let your hikers know that you will post changes on this message board. It might be easier to notify everyone of the change using this method, than contacting individuals by phone or email.

Perhaps you are a new member interested in getting started in hiking and would like to buy a used backpack. Just post a message and cross your fingers.

Maybe you cleaning out your camping gear, and you have a perfectly good internal backpack and want to pass it on to someone who could use it. Or you could offer it for sale if it is to valuable to just give away.

Maybe you are looking for a partner to paddle with sometime during the week. Let Chapter members know you are available.

You could use the page to post reports and descriptions of club activities you just came back from to let other members know what a great time they missed.

You found an interesting movie or TV program about an outdoor activity and you want to let members know about it in time so they can see it.

One of the local outdoor retailers is offering a clinic on lightweight backpacking and wants to let AMC members know about it.

You see a used kayak for sale and you would like some member advice whether this is a good deal or a ripoff.

Caution

Please remember to use plain common sense and to not post anything you wouldn't want to say in public to another person of average sensibility. This message board is offered as a service to our members. The Narragansett Chapter makes no guarantees and will not be responsible for entries made by those posting messages. We will try to monitored for improper posting, and if you see any postings that you think are not related to the AMC or considered improper, please notify the webmaster.

Emailing on the Message Board

If an email address was put in for the person posting or responding to a Message, you can directly email them from the Message Board. If you click on the tiny envelope in the "Posted to..." line, you will bring up your email program addressed to that person.

Please note that this a free commercial board that is supported by host advertising, so expect to see some type of banner advertising on the board, of which we have no control.
